feature story 2: photography tips (:

Here are some helpful hints to help make you be a better photographer:
1.Rules of third- Imagine that your image is divided into nine equal segments by two vertical and two horizontal lines. Try to position the most important things in your scene along these lines, or at the points where they intersect. Doing so will add balance to your photo.
2.Balancing elements-Placing your main subject off-center, when using the rule of thirds, creates a more interesting photo, but it can leave a void in the scene which can make it feel empty. You should balance the 'weight' of your subject by including another object of lesser importance to fill the space.
3.Symmetry and patterns-We are surrounded by symmetry and patterns, both natural and man-made, and they can make for very eye-catching works of art. Another great way to use them is to break the symmetry or pattern in some way, introducing tension and a focal point to the scene.
4.View point-Before photographing your subject, take time to think about where you will shoot it from. Our view point has a massive impact on the composition of our photo, and it can greatly affect the message that the shot expresses. Rather than just shooting from eye level, consider photographing from above, at ground level, the sides, the back, far away, close up, and so on…
5.Background-The human eye is excellent at distinguishing between the different elements in a scene, whereas a camera has a tendency to flatten the background, and this can often ruin a great photo. But this is easy to fix, at the time of shooting - look around for a plain background and make your shot, so that it doesn't distract it from the subject.
6.Framing-The world is full of objects which make perfect “natural frames”, such as trees, archways and holes. By placing these around the edge of the object, it helps to cut off the main subject from the outside world. The result is a more focused image which draws your eye naturally to the main point of interest.
7.Cropping-Often a photo will lack impact because the main subject is so small, and it becomes lost among clutter of its surroundings. By cropping around the subject you eliminate the background 'noise', ensuring the subject gets the viewer's undivided attention.
8.Experminentation-Since we now have digital cameras, we no longer have to worry about film processing costs or running out of shots. Experimenting with your photos' composition has become a real possibility; we can fire off tons of shots and delete the unwanted ones later at absolutely no extra cost. Take advantage of this fact and experiment with your compositions - you never know whether an idea will work until you try it. (:

Blog Assignment #22

RELIGION:
Sileye, a young boy, showed us how they pray in their country. religion is very important in Africa, live it is in some countries. they have rituals that they must do before each prayer. Sileye washed his hands, and made sure to put up the pot. because I'm sure water is scarce there. then he placed out his mat so that he can sit down for prayer. they didn't have floors there, just sand. then he began to pray. the same way he does 5 times a day. everyday.
In many ways do we take things here in America for granted. we have food and water available almost 24/7. and we have floors, streets, and sidewalks. and we don't make religion a number one priority...

SCHOOL:
Debo Deme, a young girl, showed us what all she has to do in the mornings before school. she has to wake up early in the mornings and sweep her yard. then she has to go to the nearest well to gather water for her and her family. which is a very long walk, especially with a large tub of water. and then she heads off to school.
She has many responsibilities she has to take care of before she goes to school. many people do their own thing when it comes to daily ruteans. not caring about their other responsibilities. so watching this video can be very inspiring, not caring about your own needs but the needs of others. :)

Blog Assignment #21

SPORTS:
Today on http://espn.go.com/ they had a poll saying "Which quarterback is the weakest link?"
And they had 4 choices:
Jake Delhomme, Browns
Trent Edwards, Bills
Matt Morre, Panthers
Mark Sanchez, Jets
Alex Smith, 49ers
I know that football is a big deal to a lot of people, but saying a specific person on that team is making them weaker, is kind of rude! because i know if someone called me the "weakest link", i would be pretty mad too. They even had the results once you've voted:
Jake Delhomme, Browns 10%
Trent Edwards, Bills 18%
Matt Morre, Panthers 13%
Mark Sanchez, Jets 39%
Alex Smith, 49ers 21%
(TOTAL VOTES: 43,318) so far
There was even a link attached to it, where u can see which states voted for who. which is also a downer. with a magority who voted for Mark Sanchez, i am sure his team is making work even harder to shake off the name "the waekest link."

Celebrities:
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/06/10/earlyshow/leisure/celebspot/main700831.shtml
'When Lindsay Lohan got into an accident last week in Los Angeles, police arrested a photographer for intentionally driving into her car.'
a little much dont cha think? just to get the perfect shot of Lindsay getting mad. well whos mad now? (:

Blog Assignment #11

DESIGN A CELL PHONE:

The goal was to design a new cell phone for senior citizens, trying to create an easier and better phone for the operator. While staying in budget, you have to change the sizes of the phone, screen, buttons, pick a color for the phone and buttons, choose the screen brightness, software, phone shape, keyboard, and if it needs rubber case or not. Once you’ve created the phone you wanted to sell, you can see what the clients think about your product. I think that it was an interesting “game”. And fun to pretend to create and sell a cell phone. :)

CRASH SCENE:

Personally, I thought that this “game” was confusing and pretty challenging. We were supposed to review the ‘crash scene’, and determine how it happened, the impact, interview the witnesses, and right a report on EVERYTHING you learned at the crash scene. Then go back to ‘headquarters’ and analyze a bunch of stuff. So yeah… it was boring. :P but I did learn not to drive fast, and be aware of my surrounding. Cause it can end badly.

THE ODD MACHINE:

At first, I thought it was sort of weird. But I guess it was educational. Going through some robot’s basement, which for some reason he knew nothing about? And going through the obstacles trying to figure out where the plunger was. But it was fun. I guess :)

WEATHER:

I thought the weather predictions were pretty cool. Not my kind of thing, but fun and interactive. very educational! :)

Blog Assignment #10 kid's websites

http://askbobrankin.com/top_sites_for_kids.html

   1. Club penguin- is a website where kids can adopt a penguin, interact in a virtual town, play games, and chat with others. Games and chatting are free, but you'll need to buy a membership to own a pet, buy clothes, or decorate your igloo.
   2. Webkinz- on this website, the kids can have their own pet, in the real world and virtual! The kids can buy a stuff animal from the store, and it comes with a special code; so they can register it online. Then they can feed it, dress it, earn “kinzcash”, and play games.
   3. KidsCom- “With a free sign up, your child can go to Plant Central, select a seed, feed it, and watch it grow.” It’s a very eco friendly website, trying to inspire kids at a young age to help ‘save’ the planet.
   4. Zwinkies- are like paper dolls that you can change their clothes, hair, and accessories. When you join the ‘club’, u can earn virtual currency, Zbucks, by playing games and then purchase even more stuff for their Zwinkies.
   5. Puzzle Pirates- is where kids can create and be their own pirate! They can play games and adventure on their own pirate lives!
   6. Toontown- “This award winning site allows your child to be his or her own ‘toon’, meet others, earn points and collect badges by going on "adventures"”
   7. Become an M&M- “You can now make yourself an M&M, just like in the TV commercials. You can then save, download it, send it as a postcard, or have it perform in various movies online. There is also an arcade to play in and screensavers to download.” When being your very own M&M, the fun never ends!
   8. Google Earth- children can get a close-up view of almost any place on the planet! And can even take a tour of the moon, mars, and the constellations. They can even get a sky’s view of their own neighborhood. It’s a very educational website for kids to adults. Learning new things every day.
   9. kSolo- do you think you can sing? Well kSolo is a karaoke website! Kids can record, send, and invite others to hear their performances. And search through almost 16 genres for their favorite song to sing along to.
   10. Funbrain- has tons of educational games, and games you can play just for fun! And is entertaining for all ages!
I think the younger students of BCS would love to play on these websites!
